We had a bucks fizz on arrival, followed by a wonderful informative talk from Charles' Mum about different resources available and the history of family involvement with Empress Mills fascinating. We then explored the shop and bought some amazing fabric and other resources, nothing was too much trouble. All assistants so cheerful and helpful. We were shown a great iron caddy made from fabrics sold here and Charles said he would send on the pattern and did! Thank you so much. A real find and super place to visit.

After a couple of trips to Empress Mills to sort a sewing emergency, I just wanted to say how friendly and helpful the staff were, in particular Jordan and Vicky, who went the extra mile in assisting us. What a great place Empress Mills is, loads of exciting fabrics etc., thanks for being a great team of Staff, (not forgetting Chloe on previous trip). It’s a wonderful place to shop for all your sewing needs.

Our stitching group had a trip to Empress Mills. What a lovely afternoon it was! We were warmly welcomed (with Bucks Fizz!) then treated to an informative and amusing talk about the Mills by Christine and her son Charles (what a brilliant double act!). Despite being experienced stitchers, our group learned about some techniques they hadn't tried and got to look around the vast Mills. Wonderful, thank you! Highly recommend a group visit.

What a fantastic family-run business with such an interesting history! The owners are extremely generous with their time and shared many hilarious anecdotes as well as some superb ideas for stitching projects. I had various projects that needed fabric, and found them all at this superb warehouse - from material for my Christmas tree skirt and netting for fly screens for my windows to gingham for my picnic table (huge selection of colours) and stiff organza for my squeezy lemons for my smoked salmon bites! Whatever you need, Empress has it - such a huge variety of colours and textures and weaves. And the accessories are just amazing ... to the point that I will be going again with my sister to stock up on our Christmas presents!!!

I visited recently with the sewing group I belong to in Harrogate. What a warm welcome you gave us. True Lancashire hospitality. Such passion for what you do. Our sewing group travelled from Harrogate to Express Mills for what we thought would be a basic visit and shopping session. We were warmly greeted by Christine, offered bucks fizz or orange juice! Christine thoroughly explained the family history of the mill and how they'd got to where they are now. She showed us some innovations they had created. We were then joined by Charles ( Christine's son) who added more fascinating and amusing information. We were then allowed to roam freely around the extensive fabrics and haberdashery. Obviously purchases were made, the quality and prices were too good to pass up on.
I can thoroughly recommend a visit, either as a group or individual, you will not be disappointed and will be greeted warmly by this true British family business. Thank you.

It changed its location (July 2024) into Empress Mill on Empress Street Colne. Excellent store for anything that's 'sewing'. Like an aladdin's cave. Has a vast array of shelves covered in a huge selection of products, from the common to the unusual. Fantastic place! Very helpful and knowledgeable staff.

My 1st visit was 34 years ago, my 2nd visit was yesterday, albeit it is my 1 stop shop for fabric and haberdashery, visiting is much more enjoyable than ordering online. What a welcome from the Empress Team, they looked after us, offering advice and knowledge which you just can't get online. 5 stars just not enough.

A fascinating day at Empress Mills of Colne, starting with a very interesting talk by Stuart Hillard about his quilting life and his quilts, followed by demos of quilt making, including his famous bags, all full of humour and information. After these came the icing on the cake - shopping and browsing fabrics in Empress Mills large warehouse. Well worth driving across the Pennines in snow showers!

My friend and I went to Empress Mills where they had Stuart Hillard doing a talk on how he got into quilting and then a demonstration on bag-making and quilting which was very informative.
The morning talk was fun with his stories on his journey through from being on the Great British Sewing Bee to the present day.

Visited the new shop yesterday 9/07. Fantastic. Couldn’t believe the wide choice of fabrics and haberdashery. Prices so good. Tried to resist impulse buying. Unfortunately can’t join you on Saturday but will definitely be back very soon even though it is a good hour drive. Already passing the word round to everyone I know.

I am so pleased that they have opened their shop, I much prefer to see and feel fabric. The shop is fantastic with a huge range of all kinds of fabric, wadding and fleece as well as fat quarters, remnants, jelly rolls. Tons of haberdashery and also crafting supplies. The staff are lovely and so helpful and prices are reasonable with plenty of bargains too. I can't recommend Empress enough and I'll definitely be going again.
